Hugh Davied @ ACMI X

An interesting lecture discussing his work primarily focused on games and play in the Asia-Pacific region

Including theories of interrogation of mobile devices. His work/residency Fanology: Pre-history of mobile devices’ , likens the fan in Asian culture to the current mobile device, the use of fan as accessory and weapon and the evolution of technology. He is interested in the functions (ritualistic, representational, reliance) that object provide.

I also found his information on the history of Pokemon Go very fascinating. Talking about the combination of technology that came together from warfare, google and mapping and the history of Pokemon in Japan stemming from stamp and insect collecting. He was talking about the virtual collections that Pokemon Go provides and how it is helping to colonize the virtual space.

Virtual activity versus real life stagnancy - how the crossover between reality and virtual lives is diminishing.
